out o' the inkwell
is a hybrid 2D/3D short film about an animator trying to get his work flow back on track by catching the very cartoon he was drawing.
Having developed the idea with my colleague / friend Adam Toutoungi, I served as co-director and head of 2D Animation for the project. However, I also worked as the visual development lead, storyboard artist, character designer, and also one of the animators.
Our film is out publicly now! If you'd like to check it out, click below!
Here's a reel of all the animation I did for the short!
Since we only had a couple crew members, I had to take on a lot of the vis-dev work. In addition to the prop work and environment layouts, I also put together animation notes for the characters, making sure to address as many specifics as I could.
We released an artbook
alongside the release that details our production process from start to finish. If you'd like to see more behind the scenes stuff, click the link below to check out our Gumroad! It's totally free! (Donations are welcome and go towards supporting the Ukraine crisis)
